Post-Release Devlog

Well, it's finally out: the first build of No More Future, my sci-fi furry visual novel, is ready!
If you're checking this devlog out, I assume you've already finished reading through the first build, and are itching (haha, I'm funny) for more.
The purposes of this devlog are:
1) Explain the update schedule for the following months;
2) Talk about future translations and the upcoming Android version;
3) Highlight other important updates to the platforms surrounding the game in the following weeks;
4) Talk about our main monetization options to keep this project afloat.

1) I know what you're asking yourself: "When's the next build coming out?" I know you are, because I am too. TwT
Okay, but seriously: I'm a Uni student, and I'm currently in the middle of my second year. This means I have to balance working on the game with my responsibilities as a student. Now, I'm quite good at that, so usually the quality of my work and the speed at which I can release new updates won't be impacted much by my other responsibilities; however, that changes when I'm nearing important exams, which I cannot afford to slack off on.
Right now, my eyes are set on my exams coming this June and September: during those months, or rather in the weeks before said months, I will be busy preparing myself, which means that during that time frame the new builds will either add very little new content, or there won't be any builds at all.
However, aside from those two months, I plan on working as hard as I can the rest of the year to ensure that each update is meaningful and adds tons of new content for you to enjoy in this marvelous world we're shaping together.
The next build will be released on my Patreon sometime at the start of next month, and publically a few weeks after that: this much, I can assure you of. If there are any changes to this schedule, I'll be sure to communicate them immediately on my Twitter, as well as through a dedicated devlog.

2) Right now, the only language the build can be played with is (American) English; however, I'm looking into getting the game translated into other languages to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the game.
I'm planning on directing an Italian translation of the game at some point, and I was previously approached by volunteers to translate the game into Spanish and Indonesian; now that the first build is out, I'll talk to those volunteers again to begin the translation efforts, but these are far from the only languages I plan on supporting in the future!
If you want to contribute to a translation of the game (preferably in a language that you are proficient in), contact me on Twitter and I'll see how I can support you. Keep in mind that I don't have the finances to support paid work, so only volunteer if you're not seeking monetary compensation; moreover, you'll only be allowed to translate content that's readily available to the public, so no sneak peeks at in-development stuff!
In terms of devices, the game can currently be played on PC, Linux, and Mac (The PC file should work on Linux as well); however, I'm looking into making a build for Android devices as well. I'll need to ask for a few friends' help to do it, but I assure you that it is a top priority for me. I'll update you with new information on this topic as it develops.

3) As mentioned earlier, I'll be launching our very own Patreon next week!
Through it, you'll be able to donate monthly in exchange for special privileges on NMF's official Discord server, which I'll release in tandem with our Patreon. Playing builds and viewing finished artworks in advance is only the beginning of my plans: new perks and tiers will release as we develop additional content and our community expands.
Much of what's to come will be dictated by you guys' responses and proposals: if you want to have a say in where we go from here and how, I encourage you to join our dedicated community of readers once the preparations are finished!

4) My Patreon isn't the only monetization option, however.
Have you ever dreamed of having yourself or one of your characters featured in a VN? Well, you'll be happy to know that with NMF, now you can! Soon, we'll allow applications for non-speaking and minor roles within the game: it'll be sort of like commissioning art of your character, except you also get featured in the game and, depending on the tier you've chosen, you even get to add some of your own personality and story to the mix!
We'll release further details on these commissions sometime next week: if you're interested, be sure to keep an eye on my Twitter for updates! And speaking of Twitter: right now, we already have a raffle going on for a free spot as a non-speaking cameo!
Be sure to check it out to get a chance to be featured in the game: your participation also helps us spread awareness of our game and boost our popularity, so everybody wins! But especially you!

So, that concludes my post-launch devlog: I hope those of you who bothered to read it (which I honestly can't thank you enough for) found it helpful and interesting.
Got any questions that I failed to answer? Be sure to leave a comment, and I'll get to it as fast as I can: I make a point of answering any and all questions I get, so don't worry about being left behind!
And of course, if you just want to leave your feedback regarding the novel, be sure to write a comment either here or on the game's official Itch.io page: not only do I love reading you guys' thoughts on the game, every comment also boosts our visibility and helps us reach more and more people! That means just voicing your thoughts is enough to support me!

I'll see you guys next devlog! ^w^

You mentioned other monetization options in your post. Would you consider starting a Kickstarter campaign and/or selling merchandise of your game?

(1 edit)

I don't think I'm in the position to run a Kickstarter, honestly. TwT
As far as merchandise goes, that's also quite a complicated topic... the other week, as a joke, I talked with a few other VN creators about making a shared line of plushies of our VNs' characters. It was a crack idea, but who knows. =V
But really, it's definitely a thought that ever crossed my mind. We'll see how things develop from here and, if there's a big demand for it and some profits to be made, maybe we'll actually go through with it at some point.

I'll eagerly await an android build then, since this looks like it will be a very interesting read.

I'll begin working on it tomorrow straight away! I'll make a new devlog once we've got some progress done. =3
